As an actor I generate creative, innovitive work. I am fascinated by stories of individuals that are different my own life experience because they widen my expanse of knowledge of humanity: this allows exploration and deepened empathy. Greek mythology fascinates me as the tales can be wildly extraordinary, but its central themes can be completely relatable and relevant to a modern audience. As a performer-writer I am interested in writing adaptations based on Ancient Greek myths. I am writing a play currently which is a retelling of the story of Persephone and Hades in today’s world which provides a commentary on the reality of dating and relationships in present society.
Something about yourself
I believe everybody’s story is worthy of telling and being heard by an audience. I am inspired by other mythological stories too - Mariana Enriquez is a south American author who writes short stories about Spanish mythology which intrigues me because they provide insight into persecution and poverty in South America. I believe she does an important job through these stories of widening audience empathy by sharing experience of marginalised groups that often don’t get given a voice in modern pop media. I want to provide a similar experience to my audiences so they feel like they have a deeper understanding of human experience that is far from their own, so they have a greater sense of empathy. Contemporary performance artist Marina Abramovic is also an inspiration to me because she pushes the boundaries with her work- for example her installation Rhythm 0 which invited the audience to do to her whatever they wished, using one of a number of items she placed on a table. This work showed a lot about human nature and held a mirror up to the violence in society, which is something I like to present in my work and provide audiences with an almost unnerving look deep into their own psyche. This is what I would like to delve into in my performance to provide a space for audiences to question their own personal prejudices.
Killing Eve Monologue
Euphoria Monologue
Screen acting is an area of intrigue and expertise for me, having had some experience as an extra on set for ‘All of You (2024)’, and have developed my skills as a screen actor at university because I find great pleasure in the subtleties and depth of character work involved in screen acting. As a screen actor Jodie Comer is a huge role model for me because she is incredibly talented and is from a similar background to me. The way her character transforms in Killing Eve encouraged me particularly to pursue my career in acting and motivated me to work on developing my accent skills to widen my potential acting jobs, similarly to how Jodie Comer has a strong Scouse accent but has played roles from an array of foreign countries.
